Originating in ancient China, acupuncture has a history of more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest medical systems in existence. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural healing functions with fine needles or pressure placed specifically on the body’s meridians, or channels of energy flow. Current scientific research as well as a long history of successful use support acupuncture’s efficacy and usefulness for a wide variety of conditions ranging from pain to sports injuries, fatigue, digestive problems, insomnia, fertility, mental / emotional health, etc. Acupuncturists like Dr. Chan are trained at 3-4 year Oriental Medical schools and licensed by state medical boards.
Acupuncture treatments with Dr. Chan are unique and different than many other styles of acupuncture given Dr. Chan’s diverse training in other modalities. An integrative acupuncture session incorporates traditional acupuncture with additional therapies including craniosacral therapy, reiki, tuning forks, infrared heat, and medical Qi Gong. Because Dr. Chan is also a naturopathic doctor, she is well versed in additional therapies that may help support the acupuncture sessions. Integrative acupuncture treatments vary based on individual need and preference, but patients can expect to have a comprehensive Chinese medicine and energetic assessment at each visit as well as a relaxing therapeutic session which incorporates acupuncture, hands on craniosacral therapy and energetic work, and gentle manual therapy to support relaxation and healing.
